We empower girls across Canada through sport
Girls Forward Foundation is Canada’s leading organization dedicated to empowering girls through sports and physical activity. For over 20 years, we’ve been creating spaces where girls discover the joy of movement, and build self-confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Our Story
Levelling the playing field for girls across Canada.
Girls Forward Foundation was born from a simple truth: every girl deserves the opportunity to experience the power of sport. But across Canada, too many girls face barriers to participation in sport. Some lack financial resources or transportation. Others confront cultural barriers or don’t see themselves represented in traditional sport programs. Many simply feel they don’t belong in athletic spaces.
Over the years, we’ve evolved to address these challenges head-on. We’ve built a community-centred organization that meets girls where they are. Through partnerships with local organizations and our extensive network of Real Role Models, we’ve built a new model that prioritizes access, belonging, and empowerment over competitive performance.
Today, we work in communities from coast-to-coast, creating spaces where every girl, regardless of background, ability, or experience, can move with confidence, build meaningful connections, and discover what they’re truly capable of.
Our Approach
Community-centered. Girl-focused. Game-changing.

Our impact
20+ years of game-changing results.
In our 20+ year history, we’ve helped over 37,000 girls access sport and physical activity programs across Canada. The impact ripples through communities, we see it in the participant who discovers their voice, in the teenager who realizes they can be both an athlete and a leader, and in communities that come together to support girls’ well-being.
Donate to our Move for the Girls campaign.
Every October, Girls Forward Foundation brings Canadians together to move, give, and celebrate girls in sport. More than 1 in 5 girls leave sport during adolescence, and this October, we’re working to change that.
